James, absolutely. We seem to be in a world now where “stunning” and “exquisite” and “awesome” photography is the only photography the masses recognize. There is much natural and honest beauty that does not fit in this narrow category. I often add art here that challenges the viewer to expand their views. Thank you for reblogging me Douglas and yes I agree with both yourself Arbus and Picasso, no one just does it for themselves anymore.

The artists from the past, who had the most influence/impact are in fact those who did just that. Did it for themselves first. Because they had to express that which was in them. Of the now billion artists inhabiting the planet, 100 years from now, if history proves anything, it will be exactly those who primarily did it ‘for themselves’ – not for their social media ‘friends’ and not for sales and fame.. Have an arfully inspiring week sir! Again thanks, – Douglas
