"Creativity is more than just being different. Anbody can plan weird; that's easy. What's hard is to be as simple as Bach. Making the simple awesomely simple, that's creativity" -Charles Mingus, musician, composer, band leader
I saw a neat documentary on Neil Sedaka last week and he talked about how much work went into perfecting the two and a half minute pop song. He echoed some very similar sentiments to Mingus. It reminds me about how hard it is to preach a simple sermon with solid content rather than ramble on and on. It’s a good thing for me to read on a Saturday night. Thanks Doug.

Richard, you have put this so concretely and so articulately and I am of the same mind as you. When I wrote my mother’s eulogy, a few years ago, it was many hours of rewriting to reach the abstracted simple potent perfect words to honor her. My art is the same. I spend endless hours finding the best statement I can reach. You bring to mind just how unsimple the concept of simple is! Have a great rest of the weekend my friend. PS Neil Sedaka, my that brings back memories! I know exactly the songs you speak of!.
