You know historically, artists were only there to serve the church and king. Composers were only thought of as a form of entertainment for nobility. Then Da Vinci and Beethoven happened and the artist as an individual was born…Pandora’s box was open! So today perhaps we have the reverse….. Nobility (the wealthy and privileged) pays phenomenal amounts of money to invest in and resale artists!
🙂 Indeed! I chose this quote because I was struck with the concept of art as just another thing she could do – such a contrast to a modern concept of the god-like persona of the ‘modern’ artist. 🙂
